Self-Help
Self-Help, North Carolina’s community development banking group, administers the Recycling Business Loan Component of its Environmental Business Loan Fund. Small Business and Technology Development Center
SBTDC’s mission is to support the growth and development of North Carolina’s economy by encouraging entrepreneurship, assisting in the creation and expansion of small businesses and facilitating technology development and transfer for small businesses. Scholarships for SBTDC’s NxLeveL Entrepreneurial Training Program and SymmeTree Change Management Course are available to recycling businesses. The courses are held at various statewide locations. Waste Reduction Partners
Waste Reduction Partners, a team of highly-experienced volunteer engineers, architects and scientists, provides western North Carolina businesses and industries with no-cost waste and energy reduction assessments and technical assistance. WRP is administered by the Land-of-Sky Regional Council and works in special partnership with the N.C. Division of Pollution Prevention and Environmental Assistance.
Carolina Recycling Association
Founded in 1988, the Carolina Recycling Association promotes resource conservation by advancing waste reduction and recycling efforts across North and South Carolina. Contact Kerry Krumsiek, executive director at (919) 545-9050.
N.C. Department of Transportation Recycling and Solid Waste Management Task Force
The N.C. DOT established this task force to encourage the development of the state's recycling industry by promoting the successful development of markets for recycled goods. The mission of the task force is to provide leadership and expertise in the selection and recommended use of recycled materials to reduce waste and preserve natural resources.
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
EPA’s Jobs Through Recycling Program brings together the economic development and recycling communities through grants, networking and information sharing. In 1994, 1996 and 1998, EPA awarded grant funding totaling more than $728,000 to establish and expand the efforts of RBAC.
SJF Ventures
SJF Ventures is a venture capital fund that finances and assists rapidly-growing companies with more than $1 million in sales. SJF specializes in supporting entrepreneurial teams whose competitive advantage includes environmental or workforce innovation.
